Play and Forces

Context:
This idea was derived by looking at an article called volume- interactive cube of responsive mirrors that redirects light and sound written by Filip Visnjic.
"The installation was inspired by the ability of light and sound to form space through reflection and their dependence on atmosphere."

Method:
I will explore with the use of sound as the main force. I will use Autodesk Maya and create cubes reacting with each other though reacting with sound at the same time.
I will take sound from the imcompetech site by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

I will use Maya instead of other softwares such as Unity and After effects because in Unity it can be easily done with script but in Maya I wanted to explore with the different 3d objects and how MASH network works when I add an audio node.

Response:
My initial idea was to create a cube reacting field where all cubes are vibrating with force in the space. My idea was to animate cubes seperately but through tests and researching on audio reactive objects, I found an easy way to do it in Maya using audio node in MASH Network. Then I thought about what is making the cubes vibrate or react in such a way, so I decided to put sound as a force. Hence, making the cubes react with the sound. I am satisfied with the response since the cubes are reacting with each other through the force of sound. The MASH Network was linear with all the cubes in a line. I adjusted it to make it in a cluster formation in which all the cubes are at the middle.

Reflection:
It is a playful experiment. The cubes reacting with each other is a playful element. Cubes reacting to sound makes a purpose for it to react in such a way. This response is related to play as it plays with audio and objects. The cubes are responsive to the audio. It is playful to viewers as it's a audio visual representation of movements of objects. The user can play with the ID of each shape of the cube. You could create it as a spherical shape and make only some of the cubes to react.
